The Details
Get your pals together and join Dan for a night of buttercream fun. This class is designed for beginners who are wanting to have a laugh with their pals in a casual environment. Dan hosts classes at the King St head quarters, or for classes more than 10, we can come to you! This is the perfect activity for a birthday, social club event or hens party! All the equipment needed to decorate will be provided by us, so you just need to show up and have fun! Class options, pricing and booking enquiries are listed further down this page.
BEVVIES:
A delicious non-alcoholic beverage will be included in your class cost. Due to Liquor Licensing Laws, we will not be supplying any alcohol at any time.
CLASS SIZES:
Should you wish to attend the class at our store, cake classes are groups of 2-6 and cupcake classes are groups of 2-20. The class will be exclusive to your group.
Should you wish to host Dan at your own venue (provided it is suitable for the class), the class sizes are as follows;
CAKE CLASS - Maximum of 6 people
CUPCAKE CLASS - Maximum of 20 people
COOKIE CAKE CLASS - Maximum of 12 people
VENUE & AVAILABILITY:
If you wish to attend a class at our store (fully council registered), the classes are held fortnightly on a Tuesday 6pm-8pm. Bookings are strictly first in first served basis.
If you wish to host Dan at your venue, we will ask for photographs of the venue to ensure it is suitable for the event. Please note, if you are hosting a cake class at your venue, we will require a fridge big enough to fit all class members + Dan's cake's. It is strongly recommended to enquire in advance as availability will depend on Dan's other cake bookings. Travel to your venue is free within 10km of our King St store. Travel will then be charged at $1 per km including return after that.
AGE REQUIREMENT:
These classes are designed for ages 16+ with no exceptions. (School holiday classes may be coming in future.)
ALLERGEN STATEMENT:
These classes are not suitable for people with allergies. All classes including cake, cupcakes and cookie cake contain wheat, gluten, dairy, milk/milk products, eggs. Traces of tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, soy and seafood may be present in the kitchen. Any allergies must be disclosed upon booking enquiry.
PLEASE READ:
We can not stress enough that the purpose of these classes is to have fun! There will be no recipes provided and no set cake designs that you will be expected to copy. Dan will demonstrate a few decorating techniques, but will then leave it up to you with what design you choose to go for.
COVID POLICY:
Classes will only run whilst NZ is at Alert Level 1. Should you have a class booked and paid for that can no longer go ahead due to a change in NZ Covid Alert Levels, Sweeties by Dan will work with you to reschedule your class at a later possible date. Refunds will be at the discretion of Sweeties by Dan.
6" CAKE CLASS
Duration of this class is approximately 2 hours. Duration does depend on size of group.
Decorate your own 6" cake! Dan will demonstrate from start to finish the process of decorating a cake.
You'll be provided with 4 layers of vanilla cake and be shown how to fill the layers with a filling of your choice (e.g caramel, strawberry, lemon curd). You'll then be able to decorate the cake with buttercream provided to you. You can choose the colour scheme of your cake. Dan will provide staple decorating items such as sprinkles, piping tips, macarons, meringues and confectionary for you to decorate your cake.
Once finished decorating, we'll pop your cake in a box for you to take home and enjoy! (The cake you take home is valued at $120)
COST OF CLASS - $160 PER PERSON
CUPCAKE CLASS
Duration of this class is approximately 1 and 1/2 hours. Duration does depend on size of group and number of cupcakes.
Decorate your own cuppies! Dan will demonstrate a few piping techniques.
You'll be provided with vanilla cupcakes and buttercream (quantity depends on class option selected). You'll have the option to fill the cupcakes (e.g. caramel, lemon curd). Dan will provide staple decorating items such as sprinkles, piping tips, meringues and confectionary for you to decorate your cupcakes.
Once finished decorating, we'll pop your cupcakes in a box for you to take home and enjoy!
COST OF CLASS
6 CUPCAKES- $55 PER PERSON
12 CUPCAKES - $75 PER PERSON
HEART SHAPED COOKIE CAKE CLASS
Duration of this class is approximately 1 and a 1/2 hours. Duration does depend on size of group.
Decorate your own heart shaped cookie cake! Dan will demonstrate how to decorate this beautiful heart!
You'll be provided with 2 layers of heart shaped sugar cookie and buttercream. You'll have the option to fill the layer (e.g. raspberry jam). Dan will provide staple decorating items such as sprinkles, meringues and confectionary for you to decorate your cookie cake.
Once finished decorating, we'll pop your cookie cake in a box for your to take home and enjoy! (Cookie cake is valued at $75)
COST OF CLASS- $95 PER PERSON
*Fresh florals will not be included in this cost.
ADD ON - INDIVIDUAL GRAZE BOXES
What's better than decorating cakes with your pals? Decorating cakes with your pals while snacking!
Option to add on individual graze boxes is $20 per person. Any allergies must be disclosed upon booking. Graze may slightly vary to picture shown due to availability. Note - not all members of group need to add on graze option. Can be individual.
